چکیده

The principles of the electron impact methods Electron Energy Loss (EEL) spectroscopy, Electron Transmission (ET) spectroscopy, measurement of EnergyDependence (ED) of vibrational excitation, and Dissociative Attachment (DA) spectroscopy are briefly introduced. The possibilities of modem instrumentation are illustrated with the examples of molecular oxygen and 1,3-butadiene. The following subjects of current interest are then discussed: (i) Triplet states and electron affinities of saturated hydrocarbons, including aliphatic hydrocarbons and compounds with increasing degree of strain, cyclopropane and (1.l.l)propellane. (ii) Dissociative attachment experiments on dihalosubstitued toluenes providing insight into factors determining the rate of intramolecular charge-transfer in the gas phase.

Liquid crystals and molecular architecture in studying intramolecular electron transfer in donor-acceptor systems

We report the results of time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (TREPR) studies of photoinduced charge separation in different supramolecular donor-acceptor systems dissolved in oriented liquid crystals (LC). Three systems are discussed: 1) covalently linked donor-spacer-acceptor systems (DsA); 2) donor-acceptor systems linked by hydrogen bonds; and 3) a zwitterionic system in which the ...

Radical cations and triplet states of 1,2-disubstituted cyclopropanes: comparison of potential surfaces.

Radical ion pairs generated by photo-induced electron transfer from 1,2-disubstituted cyclopropanes to various acceptors undergo return electron transfer in pairs of singlet and triplet multiplicity. The pair energies relative to the reactant ground states and to accessible triplet states, respectively, determine the competition between the recombination pathways. The potential surfaces of the ...

Charge separation and energy transfer in a caroteno-C60 dyad: photoinduced electron transfer from the carotenoid excited states.

We have designed and synthesized a molecular dyad comprising a carotenoid pigment linked to a fullerene derivative (C-C(60)) in which the carotenoid acts both as an antenna for the fullerene and as an electron transfer partner. Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy was carried out on the dyad in order to investigate energy transfer and charge separation pathways and efficiencies upon exci...

Optical and electron paramagnetic resonance studies of the excited triplet states of UV-B absorbers: 2-ethylhexyl salicylate and homomenthyl salicylate.

The energy levels and lifetimes of the lowest excited triplet (T1) states of UV-B absorbers, 2-ethylhexyl salicylate (EHS) and homomenthyl salicylate (HMS), and their deprotonated anions (EHS(-) and HMS(-)) were determined through measurements of phosphorescence and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra in rigid solutions at 77 K. The observed T1 energies of EHS and HMS are higher than ...

Triplet-state dynamics of a metalloporphyrin photosensitiser (PtTMPyP4) in the presence of halides and purine mononucleotides.

The photophysical properties of Pt(II) meso-tetrakis(4-N-methylpyridyl)porphyrin (PtTMPyP4) have been investigated in the presence of purine mononucleotides using emission and transient UV/visible/near-IR spectroscopy. While both adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) and guanosine 5'-monophosphate (GMP) form 1:1 and 1:2 complexes with PtTMPyP4, the effect on the triplet lifetime is different. With A...
